Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Join us for a hands-on experience to learn about medicinal and culturally significant plants and create your own loose-leaf tea blend!

Participants will be guided through an interactive Indigenous herbal tea blending experience while learning about culturally significant plants, wellness, plant relationships, and Coast Salish perspectives on reciprocity with the land. Each participant will create and package their own custom loose-leaf tea blend to take home while enjoying a tea tasting and discussion.

About the Instructor

Senaqwila Wyss is Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, Tsimshian, Sto:lo, Hawaiian, and Swiss. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Faculty of Communications, Arts and Technology, with a minor in First Nations Studies. She also holds a First Nations Languages Proficiency Certificate in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim. She and her husband are raising their 5-year-old daughter, along with her adopted 10-year-old niece, to be first-language speakers — something that had not been done in her family for four generations following colonial impacts. Senaqwila practices ethnobotany alongside her traditionally trained mother, Cease Wyss, working with Indigenous plant medicines. Raised with these ancestral teachings, she uses plants in teas, medicines, tinctures, and ceremony through her Indigenous tea company’s loose-leaf teas.
