Music is one of the mediums by which people and communities find ways to connect. The stories and emotions behind them can be recognized and understood by all, regardless of a piece’s origin or background.
This year, music takes centre stage as TAIWANfest returns to the streets of Downtown Vancouver alongside our friends from Indonesia and Malaysia. At our Stories of Independence concert on September 5, string ensemble Harmonia will present music from Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia. A community group of local musicians, Harmonia will highlight some of the musical sounds and stories that those in both Taiwan and southeast Asia can connect to.
