National Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at Fort Langley National Historic Site with a day of living culture, shared stories, and meaningful connection. Presented in proud collaboration with Stalew Arts and Culture Society, this special gathering offers a rich opportunity to learn about the cultures, histories, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial.

What to experience 

  • Indigenous banner unveiling ceremony
    Begin the day at 10 am near the Fort entrance with a special unveiling ceremony featuring banners created by artists from the four land-based nations: We look forward to celebrating the stories shared through design, by these artists:
    • Carlyn Andres, q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation
    • Athena Picha, qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen) First Nation
    • Vanessa Serroul, Máthxwi (Matsqui) First Nation
    • Joan Williams, Se’mya’me’ (Semiahmoo) First Nation
  • Live performances
    Experience powerful songs and dances presented by the Wild River Dancers (12:30 pm to 1:15 pm). 
  • Live cultural demonstrations
    Discover traditional and heritage skills through live demonstrations, including cedar weaving, blacksmithing, copper work, and more. 
  • Storytelling
    Join Kwantlen elders Karen Gabriel and Sesmelot (Fern Gabriel) for knowledge sharing sessions. 
  • Indigenous artisan market
    Browse handcrafted works from more than 50 Indigenous-owned businesses and artists. 
  • Ancestor Café
    Enjoy freshly prepared Indigenous cuisine made onsite. 
  • Spirit Bear Designs Gift Shop (Visitor Centre)
    Shop Indigenous-made art, jewelry, clothing, and keepsakes

 Bring friends and family for a day filled with learning, listening, and celebration. All are welcome, and admission is free. 

This event is hosted in partnership with the Stalew Arts and Culture Society, an organization dedicated to uplifting Indigenous artists living in Coast Salish territories and sharing their gifts with the wider community.
